The dance floor at The Marc, a club in San Marcos, was packed Thursday night.
It was full of people from San Marcos along with other cities. It's a special night at The Marc as the community remembers Officer Kenneth Copeland. Copeland was helping serve a domestic violence warrant when he was shot in the El Camino Real subdivision Dec. 4.

Copeland's commitment to law enforcement and his community inspired Justin Furstenfeld -- the lead singer of the band, Blue October -- to hold a benefit concert. Furstenfeld posted a video to social media to explain why he was holding the concert.

"We can't thank you enough for the sacrifice to protect this community you made on a daily basis," Copeland said.
For Furstenfeld, this was personal.
"Officer Copeland was an amazing man and was unfortunately taken from us in the line of duty," Furstenfeld said in the video. "My father was a police officer for the Houston police dept. and this hits home and cuts deeply in my heart."
Officer Copeland worked for 19 years at the San Marcos Police Department. He's the first in the department to die in the line of duty.
One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the San Marcos Police Department and Copeland's family.
He leaves behind a wife and four sons.The suspect in Copeland's murder, Stewart Thomas Mettz, is in the Hays County Jail on capital murder charges.
