AUSTIN — For LBJ High School head coach Andrew Jackson, there's nothing quite like the start of football season.
“The game of football is life," Jackson said.
It's a simple statement with profound meaning -- even more so this season. In March, Jackson was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer.
Though his physical health has weakened, his spirit is as strong as ever.
"I said, 'Well doc, I guess it's going to take my Lord to heal me,'” Jackson said. "'Are you ready to see a miracle take place?'"
Jackson will lighten his workload this season by coaching from the press box and delegating to his assistant coaches.
"More than anything, he’s blessed a lot of people and he’s touched many lives,” said assistant coach Jamal Fenner.
Despite his ongoing battle with cancer, Jackson's legacy and influence continues to grow.
