AUSTIN — Here's something to remember the next time you come across a four-way intersection: "Don't block the box!"
Squeezing your way through an intersection when it's backed up can cause a real headache on Austin roads. It's called "blocking the box," and it's not only annoying but illegal.
When drivers enter an intersection and are unable to travel all the way through, they prevent cross traffic movement and endanger other travelers by blocking crosswalks and bike lanes.
So, in an effort to keep traffic moving at critical intersections, the Austin transportation, and police departments launched the "Don't Block the Box" campaign.
