Day after F1 2021, Austin's airport sees busiest travel day ever

It happened the day after Formula 1.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) has recorded its busiest travel day ever, and it happened in the middle of a pandemic.

The day after the Formula 1 event wrapped up in Austin, ABIA said Oct. 25 of this year was the busiest travel day the airport has ever experienced.

On Twitter, the airport thanked the team members and partners for their hard work as 35,298 passengers went through security on that single Monday.

Here's a breakdown of the top five busiest travel days Austin's airport has recorded:

  • Oct. 25, 2021, the Monday after F1: 35,298 passengers
  • Nov. 4, 2019, the Monday after F1: 31,934 passengers
  • Oct. 14, 2019, the Monday after Weekend 2 of ACL Fest: 31,165 passengers
  • Oct. 7, 2019, the Monday after Weekend 1 of ACL Fest: 30,328 passengers
  • Oct. 8, 2021, the Friday of Weekend 2 of ACL Fest: 30,010

Oct. 8, 2021, was also the Friday of the Texas Longhorns rivalry game against Oklahoma. Both of the busiest days on record for the airport have happened after Formula 1.

On Sunday, Oct. 24, and Monday, Oct. 25, passengers at Austin's airport were being asked to arrive early in anticipation of record travelers post-Formula One Grand Prix.
