Suspect in custody after SWAT incident near Cameron Road

Residents are asked to avoid the area.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department's SWAT team responded to an incident on Monday afternoon.

Police said the report came in as a gun hotshot call around 2:04 p.m. near the 1300 block of McKie Drive, which is near Cameron Road. By 6:09 p.m., police said a suspect was taken into custody.

Residents were asked to avoid the area, but a shelter-in-place order has since been lifted.

Police said they received reports of rounds fired into the air outside. No one was hurt. When they arrived, they found the suspect alone in an apartment suffering some sort of mental health crisis. Police said the woman had outstanding warrants and barricaded herself inside.

At this time, police said it is unclear what type of gun she had, but they did say she lived in the apartment complex.
