Austin police investigating homicide in Downtown Austin

Police are investigating on East Sixth Street.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating a homicide in Downtown Austin.

Police first reported the incident after 2 p.m. on Thursday. A spokesperson for APD said they received a 911 call reporting shots fired.

Officials responded to the scene in the 400 block of E. Sixth St. in an alley along the street. There they found a man suffering from apparent trauma, although it was not specified if the trauma was due to gunshot wounds. 

Police arrested 51-year-old Eric Rollins in connection with the case. He is also suspected in another homicide that occurred on the same day.

The spokesperson said the victim died at the scene, making it the 23rd homicide of 2022. 

The spokesperson said officials believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no danger to the public. 

No further information was immediately available.
