HAYS COUNTY, Texas — The Hays County judge, along with his entire family, has tested positive for coronavirus, he confirmed on social media.
Judge Ruben Becerra tweeted Dec. 21 a copy of a press release that confirmed his positive test result. He also said his family has tested positive, but all feel well.
"I am lucky to live in a multi-family, multi-generational household, but it is a reminder how easy we can spread the virus," Becerra said. "Please consider gathering with your extended family remotely this holiday season."
According to the press release, the judge did not have any symptoms when he was told he may have been exposed. He received his positive test results on Dec. 21.
"I am doing well and will be following CDC guidelines and quarantining," he said in the statement.
Becerra told KVUE his household has been taking the virus seriously and following CDC guidelines, but sometimes people are just unlucky.
"No matter what you do, no matter how hard you try, here's great proof that we are doing everything that we are being guided to do and still, still you could end up catching COVID," he said.
Becerra said his family believes they may have been exposed after one of his sons played sports with some friends.
The Hays County Commissioners Court meeting, which happens Dec. 22, is still scheduled, but Becerra will attend remotely. He will continue to work remotely through his quarantine.
