The City of Hutto is making plans for continued growth.
The City announced it has contracted with a planning firm, Freese and Nichols, to develop a "long-range Comprehensive Plan" for future development. The project is expected to take about 15 months to complete and will include opportunities for Hutto residents and stakeholders to provide input through surveys, meetings and open houses.
The City said the study will look at everything from parks and public facilities to land use, roadways, population trends and economic resiliency.
"The resulting plan will literally become the City's roadmap to the future – guiding Hutto development patterns for decades to come," the City said.
The project will kick off this summer. A designated webpage will be introduced so that the community can stay informed and involved in the planning process. According to the City, "The high-tech website may include virtual 'idea walls' for brainstorming, interactive mapping for geographic feedback, online town halls, and participatory budgeting."
The City also said while the Comprehensive Plan will encompass all aspects of the community, part of the project will be a focused look on the Old Town District as a "unique destination." Stakeholder input will help determine how to enhance the district's "sense of character and community through public art, urban design, and open space," according to the City.
The last time the City of Hutto adopted a Comprehensive Plan was in 2008. The Hutto Economic Development Corporation will contribute $180,000 toward this project's total projected cost of $500,000.
