'Fairy Godmothers' give the gift of beauty at Cinderella's Closet in Taylor

You remember your date, your dress and the whole night. Prom is a life-event that you keep in your mind forever.

You remember your date, your dress and the whole night. Prom is a life-event that you keep in your mind forever.

One group of women in Taylor are helping make the night the best it can be by helping girls find the perfect dress for the perfect price.

"They look in that mirror and it's like they just beam and you know you've done your job," said Patrice Dempsey, President or Chief Fairy Godmother of Cinderella’s Closet in Taylor.

You might call her the "Chief Fairy Godmother."

"We often laugh and say that we have more fun than the girls who come to us,” Dempsey said.

Three years ago, Dempsey started the 501c3 nonprofit to help girls afford to go to prom. Now, Cinderella’s Closet has 600 dresses, most of them donated. The women who help the girls choose a dress, called Fairy Godmothers, are volunteers.

“I love seeing them,” said Fairy Godmother Linda Lockney. “I have two daughters. It's like raising them again".

"The Fairy Godmothers are honestly part of the reason why I love this place,” said high school junior Meghan Forbes.

"I think they're super sweet,” said Izabel Rodriguez. “They're like really funny and they're like really, really helpful".

These fairy godmothers want to help more Cinderellas, even if they can afford a dress.

"Even if people can afford to buy a prom dress, we actually would like for them to come and borrow one of our dresses and take that money and put it in a college fund".

Anyone can borrow one of these dresses for free. Get fitted for a dress at Cinderella's Closet in Taylor Tuesday and Thursday 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and during the day on Saturdays.

Dempsey accepts dress, shoes and jewelry donations during regular hours at Cinderella's Closet at 114 W. 6th Street in Taylor.
