Shocking video: School bus filled with students drives through high water near Houston

Students screamed as the New Caney ISD school bus drove through flood water as high as stop signs.

When high water gets on the roadway things become dangerous or even deadly for drivers.

We’ve seen several situations where school bus drivers put themselves and their passengers at risk.

For instance, terrified kids on a school bus screamed as it navigated through flooded roads in Porter on Tuesday.

A KHOU viewer sent us a video she said was taken by her daughter, who was on the bus.

You can see just how high the water is by comparing it to stop signs, mailboxes and even a stalled out truck.

New Caney ISD later tweeted that buses would not be taking kids home because of safety concerns.

New ISD Executive Director of Public Relations said in a statement:

Student safety is always the top priority in transporting students. Bus drivers have discretion regarding the safety and safe passage of the bus en route. No harm came to any of the students on this bus. The district will review this incident and will take appropriate action if any procedures were not followed.

An example of what can happen occurred last October in Austin when a dash cam caught the moment a school bus was swept off the road and floated downstream after the driver tried to cross a flooded road.

The school driver was charged for going around a barricade.

Also, on Tuesday several Spring ISD school buses were seen driving across high water.

One suffered the consequences of not turning around.

Spring ISD issued the following statement:

Our district never condones driving into high water, as the safety of our students and drivers is always our top priority. Before our drivers ever get behind the wheel of one of our buses, they are trained regarding the dangers of driving in high water and how to avoid getting into difficult situations when flooding occurs.

Spring ISD says this incident will be fully investigated.

No one was injured in any of these situations.
