AUSTIN, Texas — The KVUE Weather Team will be monitoring the potential for strong storms developing mostly west of Interstate 35 Thursday evening into the early nighttime hours.
For Thursday, low clouds and patchy drizzle will give way to partial afternoon sunshine in the afternoon, with highs approaching 90 degrees in many spots.
With plenty of warmth and humidity, scattered storms will likely develop for the late afternoon and evening. The current timeline shows storms developing and moving in between 7 p.m. and midnight.
Some of these storms, especially across the Hill Country, could be severe with large hail and strong winds. This area is under a "slight" – level 2 out of 5 – risk for severe weather. The I-35 corridor and most of the Coastal Plains are under a level 1 risk.
This weekend, we expect widespread heavy rain and strong storms for Saturday evening into Saturday night as a cold front moves in from the north. Rain showers will linger into Sunday morning, and the afternoon will turn dry and very cool with high temperatures only in the 60s. The front will also bring some much-needed relief from the humidity.
We expect a widespread 1 to 2 inches of rainfall with isolated pockets of 4 inches possible. This could lead to localized flooding in some spots Saturday night. Stick with KVUE for the latest.
