Forecast: Cooler and wetter weather on the way

Here are the latest updates from the KVUE Weather Team.

AUSTIN, Texas — We've arrived to the end of the workweek and we finally have some slight relief from the warm and muggy conditions on the way. A cold front is currently sitting over the Central Texas and will bring a drop in temperatures and a wet weekend to the area.

As of early Friday morning, the cold front is sitting in the middle of Central Texas. It hasn't moved south enough to create more comfortable conditions, but we do expect it drop temperatures into the mid and upper 60s to start the day. Cloudy conditions should keep highs only in the mid-70s for the afternoon. We'll be tracking an isolated shower chance later in the day, but most will remain dry until the weekend rolls around.

Rain chances are on the rise on Saturday as isolated to scattered showers are possible for the first half of the day. Coverage grows more widespread for the evening and overnight hours into Sunday morning. Heavy rainfall will be possible and could lead to flooding concerns. We will also be monitoring the potential for isolated strong storms, especially for the southern half of Central Texas.

THURSDAY NIGHT:
30% evening storms, some of which could be strong. Cloudy, warm, and muggy. South-southeast wind at 5 to 10 mph.
