Smoke from agricultural fires in Mexico decreases this weekend

South wind is transporting smoke from agricultural fires in Mexico and Central America.

AUSTIN, Texas — Periods of hazy skies and reduced air quality, due to agricultural fires in Mexico and Central America, has returned to Central Texas.

Every year, farmers in parts of Mexico and Central America will conduct agricultural burning of crops. Due to persistent southerly winds over the next several days, some of the smoke is making its way into parts of Texas.

The air quality will improve over the next few days. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) forecasts light amounts of smoke for Sunday, but good air quality for most of the Holiday Weekend.
