Looking for a fun road trip that doesn't use a ton of gas? Head south to Seguin

Exploring Central Texas towns this summer doesn't have to break the bank.

SEGUIN, Texas — We all want to go on a vacation this summer. Road trips are always a great way to explore — but with the cost of gas at a record high, it may be time to stay closer to home and plan a trip that you can make with just one tank of gas.

KVUE's Rob Evans filled up his car, loaded up his family and headed south to Guadalupe County and the hidden gems of Seguin, Texas.

Seguin is just an hour south of Austin and has so much to do.

For the adventurous, there's ZDT Amusement Park, with more than a dozen attractions, water rides and a video arcade.

But this vacation was to get away from electronics, so we kept that part a secret. Instead, we bought a fishing pole, some sunscreen and booked an Airbnb on the Guadalupe River.

There's just something about being on the water. Fishing, canoeing, finding out just how brave your kids can be ... when you bribe them.

"How much money do I get again?" asked Evans' son, Kason, as he considered diving off a dock for the first time ever.

"Five bucks," Evans said.

Kason took the plunge, all smiles.

Even your teenage daughter might have a good time on the river.

If you're looking for a photo op, you can head downtown to the world's largest pecan. Well, it used to be before someone up north built a bigger one. We didn't have the heart to tell the kids.

Once you've built up an appetite, head across the street to a place that the locals absolutely raved about, Burnt Bean Company. And, boy, were they right to rave. It was incredible. The ribs just fell apart they were so tender.

And the only thing better than the barbeque, apparently, is this coffee shop. We stopped there twice in two hours. Happy wife, happy life, after all.

And a happy family after a tank-of-gas getaway to Seguin.
