Southwest Airlines warns of Facebook scam

The Texas-based airline is reminding customers to always check for a blue checkmark to make sure a social media account is verified.

TEXAS, USA — Southwest Airlines is warning customers that some deals are too good to be true.

A post that was going around on Facebook claimed that Southwest Airlines is celebrating its 69th anniversary by giving away two round-trip tickets to anyone who typed "done" by a deadline on Sunday.

But Southwest said that deal wasn't real and was posted by a fake account.

"While we like great flight deals as much as the next airline, this one is unfortunately not real, and wasn't posted by Southwest Airlines," the Texas-based airline said in a Facebook post.

Southwest is reminding customers to always look for a blue checkmark to make sure a social media account is verified and the posts you're seeing are genuine.

The airline also noted that it is celebrating its 51st anniversary this year, not its 69th.
