The crash occurred near Scofield Ridge Parkway and the North MoPac Expressway southbound service road.

AUSTIN, Texas — A man and a 3-year-old girl died after a rollover crash in North Austin Tuesday morning.

Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) said at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday that medics and Austin Fire Department crews were on the scene near Scofield Ridge Parkway and the North MoPac Expressway southbound service road for a reported collision with a rollover. CPR was in progress on the people involved.

A few minutes later, ATCEMS reported that CPR was in progress on two patients. At 10:55 a.m., ATCEMS reported that one of the patients, an adult, had been pronounced dead at the scene. CPR was still being performed on the second patient, a child.

Just after 11 a.m., ATCEMS confirmed that the child had also been pronounced dead at the scene.

In an update on Jan. 12, the Austin Police Department (APD) said a vehicle driving southbound left the roadway and hit a maintenance worker, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to APD, the vehicle continued southbound and hit a cement drainage ditch, causing the vehicle to flip.

The vehicle received extensive damage to the back driver’s side where the passenger, a 3-year-old girl, was seated. She was the child who medics pronounced dead at the scene.

The APD said the driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The deadly crash closed roads in the area.

The APD said this is Austin’s first fatal traffic crash of 2022, resulting in 2 fatalities for the year.
