Austin traffic: Southbound US 183, I-35 lanes will be closed starting Sunday night

TxDOT will implement full U.S. 183 main lane closures to pour a bridge deck and close additional lanes to set a beam at the Interstate 35 and U.S. 183 interchange.

AUSTIN, Texas — Heads up, Austin drivers: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be implementing lane closures at the Interstate 35 and U.S. 183 interchange beginning Sunday night so that crews can pour a portion of the bridge deck and set bridge beams on the southbound I-35 to southbound U.S. 183 and southbound I-35 to northbound U.S. 183 flyovers.

From Sunday, Aug. 9 at 8 p.m. until Monday, Aug. 10 at 5:30 a.m., crews will close the southbound U.S. 183 main lanes and frontage road between I-35 and the Cameron Road entrance ramp. Traffic will detour to southbound I-35 to take U.S. 290 East to access U.S. 183.

Beginning on Monday, Aug. 10, through Friday, Aug. 14, the southbound I-35 frontage road between Wonsley Drive and U.S. 183 will temporarily close each night from 8 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Traffic will detour to Wonsley Drive and Georgian Acres to access U.S. 183. The southbound I-35 exit for U.S. 183/St. Johns Avenue (#240) will also be closed. 

Traffic should detour to the southbound I-35 RM 2222 exit (#238A) and use the U.S. 290 East U-turn to access St. John's Avenue.
