Tech Tuesday: Austin startup, NuWash, washes cars on the go

The Austin tech company NuWash washes cars wherever you are. In two-and-a-half years the company has cleaned more than 30,000 cars.

AUSTIN, Texas — Tired of waiting in line at the car wash?

Well, four UT alums have created an app that brings the car wash to you. That means at home, the parking garage at your work, or anywhere.

The company uses a polymer solution and towels to clean and buff the cars. The idea is when you wake up, or are done with work, you can have a clean car.

Walker Drewett and three college roommates came up with the idea and started it their senior year at UT. They took classes during the morning, worked on the app during the day, and then washed cars each night till 3 a.m.

"We set up our office in the living room, we turned our kitchen pantry and converted it to a car wash storage facility with all of our car wash equipment," said Drewett. "So it was a true startup hustle. Eating, breathing, sleeping, carwashing."

Now the company has grown to wash 30,000 cars over it's two-and-a-half years. After a year of doing all the work, the guys started bringing in trained technicians so they could focus more on the app.

That's where most of their business is scheduled through. The washes start at $24 for sedans, and $28 for trucks and SUVs. They also have other options that allow you to have the inside cleaned or wax added to the car, each of those add an upcharge.

Adding change to an industry that Drewett says has been stagnant for too long.
