NEW ORLEANS — The Superdome has a Westlake connection this week: Drew Brees and the Saints with a game on Sunday, followed by Sam Ehlinger and the Longhorns on Tuesday.

Both quarterbacks were stars for the Chaparrals.

"I have pride in the fact that I went to his high school," said Ehlinger. "And to be able to play in the Superdome where he's absolutely gone off and set records and done those things for the Saints organization. It's really, really cool."

Brees led Westlake to a State Championship as a senior in 1996, exactly 20 years before Ehlinger's senior season with the Chaps. And the two keep in touch.

"He sent me a text message the day before we were heading up here," said Ehlinger. "He reached out and knew we'd be heading out to his city. Just paying his respect and catching up."

In the middle of the Brees-Ehlinger connection is Nick Foles. His senior season was 2006. That could spell good things in the future for the Westlake QB of 2026!
