AUSTIN — The USL soccer team set to take the field at the Circuit of Americas has unveiled their team name: Austin BOLD FC.
At a press conference Friday, Aug. 3, USL announced the name and their logo.
The stadium will be able to seat 5,000 people.
One of the players on Austin BOLD FC could be the fastest man on earth: Usain Bolt. Bolt has been in negotiations with Austin's USL team for several months, according to USL Austin general manager Roberto Silva.
USL said Friday that they could not confirm if Bolt will play with them, but that "they're still fighting" for him.
As for other players, USL said they can't announce a lot of the team because they're still playing for other teams at this time.
USL announced back in February that they wanted to bring a soccer franchise to Austin. This is also the league that previously operated the Austin Aztex, who stopped playing back in 2015.
KVUE's Hank Cavagnaro went to Austin Indoor Soccer in Pflugerville to ask locals their thoughts on the announcement.
"As much as it may sound weird, I think in the long run, the investment in developing a team, I think that will pay off," said an employee at Austin Indoor Soccer.
"We still might get an MLS team, but if we don't, we still have this as a foundation," said another fan.
"I want major league anything," said a New York transplant living in Austin. "I mean, UT is that around here, but if you're not from here -- which a lot of people aren't from here -- I have no allegiance to UT."
