The Locker a Crosby family affair: Golf fundraiser included local celebrities like WilCo sheriff

"It shows that Williamson County doesn't forget about those who are in need."

GEORGETOWN, Texas — In it's 11th year of existence, Georgetown, Texas-based organization The Locker continues to grow and provide for children in Williamson County.

Former Georgetown High School and Green Bay Packer kicker Mason Crosby and his family are the one who built the organization from the ground.

It's a family affair if you will. Mason's mother, Karen Crosby, works tirelessly to continue the growth of the organization, which provides for at-risk students in Georgetown.

Each school operates as a student club. The students conduct the meetings, create the agenda and implement the projects. Adults are there on an advisory capacity. The Locker Board of Directors has a majority membership consisting of student officers from each of The Locker clubs. The Locker model is unique and effective.

The Locker's annual fundraising golf tournament took place at Cimarron Hills Golf & Country Club in Georgetown on Monday.

A list of local celebrities included former Longhorn football stars like Jordan Shipley.

One of The Locker's biggest supporters has been local law enforcement agencies, including the Williamson County Sheriff's Office and the sheriff himself, Robert Chody.

Sheriff Chody teamed up with others, including WWE star Dustin Rhodes and former MLB baseball stars like Brandon Puffer and Brian Gordon, from Round Rock.

"Mr. Mason Crosby himself is one of our very own honorary deputies," said Chody.

The Williamson County sheriff believes this partnership serves the greater good of the area youth.

Sheriff Chody also discussed his social media presence. I asked him if he would agree he was maybe the most visible sheriff in the U.S. or an internet viral superstar. He said that may be exaggerated.

"People take notice, I know that," said Chody. "That national exposure, it's got us on 'Live PD;' it's got us some other possibilities, which all benefit the community."

Chody has more than 31,000 Twitter followers and he creates and posts content daily to give his constituents transparency, with behind-the-scenes footage of law enforcement work and some humor.

"I can tell you it's not always easy. Sometimes I'm criticized for it. But I can tell you it's been successful for us. But the majority of the community that I've been hearing from are happy about the results of that," said Chody.
