Texas Longhorn Breckyn Hager continues to honor his hair promise

Just like his legendary Texas linebacker dad, Britt, Breckyn Hager has long hair.

But, Britt's youngest son doesn’t plan on trimming those golden locks any time soon.

Well, maybe on December 1st.

In 2015, the Longhorn linebacker and defensive end said he would not cut his hair until he and the Longhorns win a Big 12 Championship.

Hager’s follicles continued to grow. But, the 2018 season is the final attempt for Hager to uphold his championship promise.

The Big 12 is definitely not a follicly-challenged football league, either.

"I definitely have fun with it," Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy said at Big 12 Media Day.

The man in Stillwater rocks the clean mullet and the Texas Longhorns have a pair domes with full flowing hair.

"Breckyn... I'm talking good about you bro," Patrick Vahe, UT offensive lineman, said.

Vahe shares the same hair style as Breckyn Hager, who was recently referred to as one of the top freakish players in college football.

"It's just long hair and I do care," Hager said.

Breckyn's legendary Longhorn linebacker dad also had long hair when he suited up in the burnt orange and white.

So, the truth is, Breckyn is not overly fond of his hair length.

"Since day one, he hates his hair. A lot of people thinks he loves it, but he hates it," Chris Nelson said.

"Yeah, because he wants to cut it off. So he wants to win the Big 12 championship in order to cut it off. That's a man with a goal right there," Vahe said.

But, those blonde locks have become Hager's identity -- or as Breckyn told KVUE -- his alter ego, just like story of Samson and the strength he had because of his hair.

"To be a freak, you have to be willing do what others want do," Hager said.

Hager's reputation of a freak may be rooted to his hair.
