Phil Mickelson, Jason Day to compete in Dell Match Play next week

Day captured the first Dell Match Play championship in 2016.

AUSTIN, Texas — The 2019 World Golf Championship Dell Match Play field added two more marquee names on Wednesday.

Phil "Lefty" Mickelson will return to Austin in search of his first win of the event at Austin Country Club.

Mickelson will make his 15th career start at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. The 44-time PGA Tour winner has three World Golf Championships titles to his credit. The 48-year-old has posted a victory in each of the past two seasons, with a win at the 2018 World Golf Championships, Mexico and his latest victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February.

Meanwhile, the first winner of the event in Austin, Jason Day, will make his ninth career start in the event. Over the course of his illustrious career, the two-time winner has been a part of some of the most memorable matches in tournament history, taking down Victor Dubuisson in a thrilling, 23-hole championship match in 2014 and outlasting Rory McIlroy in a heavyweight semifinal match on his way to the 2016 victory.

Jim Furyk, who jumped 110 spots in the rankings up to No. 57 with a runner-up at The Players Championship to qualify for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, has also committed. The 17-time PGA Tour winner has made 16 starts in the Dell Technologies Match Play with a solo fourth in 2015 as his best finish.
