AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Longhorns needed some extra time to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals of the NIT on Sunday, but they ultimately got the job done.
No. 2 Texas defeated No. 3 Xavier 78-76 in overtime at the Frank Erwin Center. The game went back and forth more than two kids on a see-saw, but with the help of Kerwin Roach, Jericho Sims and Courtney Ramey, the Horns are still breathing.
Roach scored a team-high 21 points while Sims had arguably his best performance with 11 points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Courtney Ramey pitched in 17 points and a career-high eight rebounds.
Xavier kept fighting back, pulling within a point several times at the end of the contest, but the Horns held on for the win.
Next up, Texas will face the winner of the Colorado-Norfolk State game on Wednesday.
