No. 10 Texas takes series against No. 7 Texas Tech with 4-3 win in finale

The Texas Longhorns take the series over Texas Tech with a 4-3 series final.

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas defeated Texas Tech, 4-3, to claim the Big 12 opening series Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

It was all quiet until the fifth, when Tech broke through with an RBI double by Josh Jung to give the Red Raiders the lead at 1-0.

In response, a couple of hometown guys for Texas got the momentum to shift in the Longhorns' favor. McCallum's Mason Bryant got out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth to keep the lead at 1-0.

To follow it up, Round Rock alum Austin Todd broke out of his slump to break up Tech's no-hitter in the bottom of the sixth. Todd recorded a single to get on base, then a couple of batters later, Masen Hibbeler drove in two runs to give Texas it's first lead of the game, 2-1.

They'd tack on a couple more, while Tech threatened with a pair of runs in the final innings. But the Longhorns held them off for their eighth-straight series win at home, and their ninth comeback win of the season.
