AUSTIN — The Longhorns will begin making their way to New Orleans in a couple of days for the Sugar Bowl.

Texas has embraced the role as the underdog in this game.

It's not much of a surprise to college football fans that Tom Herman's Longhorns were gifted that role against Georgia.

The Bulldogs are currently a 12.5-point favorite to beat Texas on New Year's night. The over/under is 58 points. That's the point total Las Vegas odds makers expect the Horns and Bulldogs to combine for on the scoreboard.

The Big 12's Defensive Lineman of the Year, Charles Omenihu, isn't phased by the odds.

"Whoever made those predictions probably hasn't played ball before," Omenihu said. "The scoreboard will be decided on the field we will be playing on January 1st at the good ol' Superdome. Not by someone writing on a piece of paper or someone betting on it in Vegas."

A notable nugget: During Herman's head coaching career at Houston and at Texas, he has had nine outright wins in 15 games when his teams were the underdog.

Fifteenth-ranked Texas (9-4 overall) will meet fifth-ranked Georgia (11-2) in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day. Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m.
