Lake Travis' Garrett Wilson says he’s cherishing every moment ahead of state title game

Garrett Wilson is nearing his final moments as a Lake Travis Cavalier. Wilson is a special talent who said he and his team are playing against the odds.

AUSTIN — The Lake Travis Cavaliers are gunning for their fourth consecutive appearance in a state title game.

The Cavaliers will meet Galena Park North School High School Saturday inside of Houston's NRG Stadium.

This will be Garrett Wilson's final game before he signs his national letter-of-intent to play for Ohio State University on Dec. 19. If the Cavs advance, Lake Travis will be preparing for the class 6A, division state title game.

Wilson, who is the nation's 2nd overall ranked high school prospect, has remained loyal to the Buckeyes throughout the debacle with outgoing head coach Urban Meyer and the firing of Zach Smith prior to the season began.

Ohio State's Offensive Coordinator Ryan Day will take over as head coach of the Buckeyes after the Rose Bowl.

"Coach Day and I have a great relationship. I trust in him fully," said Wilson. "He was my main recruiter. As him being elevated to the head coach I look at that as a positive for me."

Wilson, who has over 1100 yards receiving this season and has scored 18 touchdowns, said he is cherishing every moment remaining as a Lake Travis Cavalier with his teammates and his coaches.

Wilson elaborated on the fact that this team was looked upon as an underdog earlier in the year, especially after the Cavaliers lost to rival Westlake back on Oct. 12.

"It's not often at Lake Travis you're looked upon as an underdog," said Wilson.

But, Lake Travis has played in countless big games and in several big time venues during Wilson's career as a Cavalier. He and the Cavs will face North Shore at the home of the Houston Texans this Saturday.

If Lake Travis wins, Wilson and the Cavs will return to AT&T Stadium -- the home of the Dallas Cowboys -- in Arlington for a fourth straight season.

"We did it last week against Judson in San Antonio. This gets us ready for those big time environments," said Wilson.
