Confident Texas Longhorns to face their nemesis, TCU, in first conference game

We'll soon find out if the Texas Longhorns' football program can build on their defensive performance against one of the nation's most explosive offenses, Texas Christian University.

AUSTIN — The Longhorns’ impressive 37-14 win over the University of Southern California lit up the Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium last Saturday night.

“It shows that we can do it," said Texas defensive lineman Charles Omenihu at a press conference Tuesday.

The Texas defense limited the Trojans to negative five rushing yards.

“I’ve not seen that ever. Proud moment. I’m not sure if that’s sustainable," Omenihu said.

We’ll soon find out if the Longhorns can build on that defensive performance against one of the nation’s most explosive offenses, Texas Christian University.

“They all play well together and play fast," said Longhorns defensive tackle Chris Nelson.

The Horned Frogs are led by dual threat quarterback, Shawn Robinson. Seventeeth ranked TCU fell to Ohio State in Arlington last Saturday, 40-28.

“We want to start it off the right way. Everyone’s head is in a good place," said Nelson.

Offensively, the Horns are in a much better place as well. Texas accumulated 160 yards rushing against the USC defense. The Horns will rely on that growth against TCU, a program Texas has lost to in five of their six meetings as members of the Big 12.

“There’s not one thing we’re bad at or good at, plenty of things to improve on and clean up," said quarterback Sam Ehlinger.

Ehlinger also said the offense finally had fun and played without hesitancy.

This Longhorns have struggled against TCU, losing four of the past five games against the Horned Frogs. Is this year the Longhorns end that trend?

We will find out Saturday afternoon at DKR Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.

Be sure to tune into KVUE at 10 p.m. Tuesday for Shawn Clynch's story about the Chris Nelson's new celebratory dance.
