ROUND ROCK, Texas — All sports are on pause thanks to the current pandemic. That's left organizations in limbo, including the Round Rock Express.
Team President Chris Almendarez said he and his 52 employees at the Express are trying to stay busy and holding out hope that the season will still happen at some time this summer.
"There's a handful of us here making sure the stadium is safe, and when we get the green light to play baseball we're ready to go," Almendarez said.
The Express, like the rest of minor league baseball, is at the mercy of the MLB when it comes to when and if their season will be played.

"There was some news last week that they talked about doing some type of a spring training in Arizona," Almendarez said. "What most people don't realize is that you need about three weeks to get into game shape and so whenever that green light is made, if those guys are able to be in Arizona getting their practice in then we can start as soon as they're ready."
Almendarez understands that going to an Express game is really more than a sporting event and that a lot of fans will be excited to have America's pastime back in Round Rock whenever that happens.
"I think the Dell Diamond is a solace for many people and sometimes when things happen in life it's great to come out to the Dell Diamond and grab a cold drink and a hot dog and just watch the game that we all grew up loving," he said.
We all hope that happens sooner rather than later.
