This La Grange grain silo guesthouse might make you want to become a 'tinkeeper' yourself

Amy Kleinwachter, an antique store owner, created a truly "rusty chic" cottage for her property.

LA GRANGE, Texas — The video above was published in 2017.

A major part of running an antique store is picking through souvenirs, salvage and scraps to find the diamonds in the rough.

As Country Living reported, Amy Kleinwachter – owner of Old World Antieks in La Grange – used that expertise to make a very country guesthouse for her property.

Kleinwachter found a 14-foot round grain silo at a ranch just down from her home, Country Living reported. She had already built an entire farmhouse out of salvaged materials, so she immediately saw a cozy cottage future for the silo.

Kleinwachter had the silo hauled to her 10-acre property, then hired a contractor to help her go through her "vast inventory of weathered beadboard, sheet metal and window frames," according to Country Living

"It took a surprising amount of geometry to make things work in a circle, but Judy [Kurtz, the contractor] nailed it!" Kleinwachter told the magazine.

The 1,000-square-foot completed guesthouse now includes a front porch and a bed/bath extension.

Some of the quirky salvaged features include a phone nook-turned-bathroom shelf and a living room footrest made out of a champagne crate.
