Texas Department of Transportation breaks ground to expand US 290 East

BASTROP, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation broke ground on a project Thursday that will widen US 290 East.

"The gap project" will complete the final 4-lane divided section of US 290 between Elgin and Paige.

“The ultimate goal of this corridor project is to divide US 290 from Elgin to Giddings and this project is a major step toward making that happen,” said Kevin Dickey, TxDOT Austin Deputy District Engineer. “Together these projects will improve safety and mobility for folks not only in Bastrop and Lee counties, but those traveling from Austin to Houston as well.”
