Sheriff investigating 'security concerns' after Texas lawmaker stalls bill criminalizing abortion

The sheriff of Collin County confirmed his office is looking into security concerns related to Plano Republican Rep. Jeff Leach.

AUSTIN, Texas — A controversial abortion bill that would sentence women to prison or even death for getting an abortion is going nowhere at the Texas Capitol.

A public hearing was held Monday on House Bill 896 (HB 896) by Representative Tony Tinderholt (R-Arlington) in the House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence. The bill was left pending and, on Wednesday, the Chair of the Committee, Representative Jeff Leach (R-Plano), released the following statement via Twitter:

Representative Leach has since been contacted by the Collin County Sheriff, where his family's home is, letting him know they are looking into security concerns related to him and are taking appropriate measures.

Meanwhile, Representative Tinderholt stands by his bill, writing on his Facebook Page "unborn children shouldn't be treated differently than other people who are murdered."

After news of the events involving Rep. Leach broke, Rep. Tinderholt wrote on Facebook that all of this has "simply increased his resolve to fight for unborn children."
