AUSTIN, Texas — In February, KVUE reported that 95% of eligible voters in Travis County were registered to vote, hitting an all-time high record in the county. But is that translating to a high voter turnout in the primary election?
According to the Travis County Clerk Office, here's a look at the voter turnout in the primary election:

- Ballots Cast: 42,196
- Voter Turnout: 5.14%

- Voter Turnout: 27.44%
By Feb. 15, more than 820,000 people registered to vote in Travis County.
During early voting, more than 115,700 people turned out to the polling places throughout Travis County, breaking its presidential primary early voting record, according to KVUE's media partners at the Austin American-Statesman. And as of 6:10 p.m. on March 3, primary election day in Texas, more than 117,000 people have voted in Travis County, the Travis County Clerk's Office reported.
"We are seeing high turnout and urge voters to continue to get out and vote early in the day," said Victoria Hinojosa with the office. "Every location is staffed and up and running."

The record voter registration came after the Travis County Tax Office added another 50,000 in 2019, according to Bruce Elfant, Travis County Tax assessor-collector and voter registrar. That uptick in 2019 was unusual for a non-presidential election year.
“After a midterm or presidential election, it’s pretty quiet and people aren’t thinking about voter registration – they’re getting back to their lives and all,” Elfant said.
If you didn’t register in time for the Texas primaries, you have time to do so before the General Election on Nov. 3. You can check online to see if you are currently registered to vote. If you are not registered, you can register online through the Texas Secretary of State’s website. You have until Oct. 5 to do so.
