Trump's Texas rally for Ted Cruz moves to bigger Houston venue

Donald Trump will hold a rally for Republican Ted Cruz on Monday, Oct. 22.

AUSTIN — UPDATE: On Oct. 18, it was announced that the rally's venue has been moved from NRG Arena to the Toyota Center.

President Donald Trump's promise of a rally for Republican Senator Ted Cruz at "the biggest stadium in Texas" he can find may be coming to fruition.

Trump's visit to Texas will be on Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at NRG Arena in Houston, an 8,000-seat arena next door to NRG Stadium, which holds about 80,000 people.

A report from the Houston Chronicle states that Bob McNair, the owner of the Houston Texans who play their games at NRG Stadium, was the largest political donor of all NFL owners during the 2016 election cycle, donating $500,000 to a super PAC headed by Cruz.

In August, Trump took to Twitter to announce he would be endorsing Cruz in the Texas Senate race while also denouncing Democratic congressman Beto O'Rourke.

The anticipated announcement comes on the heels of the second debate between Cruz and O'Rourke, airing live on Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. on KVUE.

O'Rourke previously held a rally in Austin on Sept. 29 featuring artists like Leon Bridges and Willie Nelson.
