First LGBT advocacy day gives people chance to talk to representatives at Capitol

The four Texas LGBT Chambers of Commerce met at the Capitol on Wednesday to meet with lawmakers.

AUSTIN, Texas — LGBT Chambers of Commerce from Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio met at the Capitol for the first advocacy day on Wednesday.

"Let the representatives know that we’re here and who we represent, which is over 1000 businesses here in Texas," said Chase Kincannon, the board chair of the Austin chamber. "Beyond that, we're watching specifically for several bills to make sure that if they do get presented that we are going to mount opposition, specifically a preemption bill."

Kincannon said the chambers work for Texas to be more welcoming to people and businesses.

"We as a Chamber of Commerce are uniquely positioned to bridge between Republicans and Democrats in the Texas legislature to help create common ground, as we represent both business and the LGBT community," said Kincannon.

He said the 2019 session is friendlier than the 2017, and noted the so-called "bathroom bill" was key in getting support from the LGBT business community.

Kincannon also said they wanted to let lawmakers know "what's good for LGBT business is good for business and good for Texas."
