Zilker Brewing Company announces commemorative can for Austin Parks Foundation anniversary

Austinites can get the can at local retailers and four August events. A portion of sales will go to the Austin Parks Foundation.

AUSTIN, Texas — Zilker Brewing Company is celebrating the Austin Parks Foundation's 30th anniversary with a special "Parks & Rec" drink can available at local retailers and events.

H-E-B, Whole Foods, Central Market, Specs and Zilker Brewing Company's taproom will all offer the commemorative can. A portion of sales on the cans will go to the Austin Parks Foundation.

Though the anniversary can design is new, the drink inside is not. It first debuted in 2017 with the limited release of Parks & Rec Pale Ale. The drink grew so popular among Zilker Brewing Company customers that it "earned its spot on their year-round rotation," the Austin Parks Foundation said in a Friday release.

The Austin Parks Foundation has received more than $25,000 from portions of sales since 2017.

“Parks & Rec was originally brewed in collaboration with APF to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Zilker Park back in 2017,” said Patrick Clark, Zilker Brewing Company founder. “It was a no-brainer to help celebrate an iconic Austin landmark, and give back to the group that improves and maintains so many of our beloved parks. Over the past five years, we’ve been able to share a beer that could be sipped while enjoying the outdoors and while helping maintain our beautiful parks."

The 30th anniversary can will be available at retailers and at four August events:

  • Trivia night at 7 p.m. at The Tavern on Aug. 3
  • Buzzmill Riverside pop-up from 6-8 p.m. on Aug. 4
  • Bangers happy hour from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 5
  • A pub crawl hosted by ZBC on Barton Springs Road on Aug. 25
