A Fort Hood soldier originally from Pennsylvania was killed in a crash near Georgetown early Sunday morning.

Fort Hood said Tuesday that Sgt. Sean McGregor Vanderwal, 25, of New Castle, Penn. died in the crash. The crash happened at approximately 2:20 a.m. Sunday along the I-35 frontage road between County Road 150 and FM 972.

Authorities told KVUE's sister station KCEN that a passenger vehicle collided with the back of a semi-truck.

Venderwal entered active-duty service in April 2014 as a military policeman. He had been assigned to the 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, since February.

Two other people were transported to Seton Medical Center Williamson in Round Rock.
