CENTRAL TEXAS -- If you're planning on spending time outside for July 4 in the Austin area, you may want to pack your rain gear with you.
Scattered showers and storms are likely for the afternoon and evening around Austin and Central Texas.
While the morning will be mostly quiet, isolated rain will still be possible especially east of Austin and Interstate 35.
After 3 p.m, more widespread rainfall is expected. Some could come heavy at times with lightning.
For this evening as firework celebrations commence, several scattered showers and storms will likely still be sweeping through the area.
Periods of rainfall will be possible overnight and into Thursday as well. In fact, we stick onto rain chances all the way through this weekend!
Over the next seven days, expect around an inch of rainfall to add up around Austin with more to the east.
With July being our driest month of the year typically, the rain is a welcome sign for many after experiencing several consecutive days of triple digit heat.
