Wintry mix and high winds possible Thursday in Hill Country

Light accumulations of snow will be possible in the Texas Hill Country.

CENTRAL TEXAS — Strong winds are expected to continue through the day on Friday. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour are likely, with gusts as high as 50 miles per hour possible in the Hill Country.

The Texas Hill Country may see a rain and snow mix through the early morning hours on Friday.

A strong area of low pressure will move into the state on Thursday, making for a windy afternoon and evening. The low pressure will also bring a chance of snow for the Hill Country on Thursday night into Friday morning.

For western areas of Travis County, western Williamson County and portions of Blanco and Gillespie counties, little to no snow accumulation is expected.

For portions of Burnet, Llano and Mason counties, trace amounts of snow to as much as an inch of snow is possible on primarily grassy areas.

Because surface temperatures will be above freezing over most of the area, road conditions will be damp, but not expected to be icy.

A cold rain is in the forecast Thursday night for areas along and east of IH-35.
