AUSTIN, Texas — A driver and his passenger were killed early Tuesday morning in a crash near North Capital of Texas Highway and the North MoPac northbound service road.

Police said Owen William Macki, 21, was driving a black, 2015 Toyota Camy eastbound in the inside lane of Loop 360 at a high rate of speed when he struck the concrete barrier wall at the MoPac service road. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Passenger Raquel Gitane Aveytia, 24, was transported to Saint David's Round Rock Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Austin Police Department is investigating. Anyone with more information is asked to call 512-974-4424.

This is Austin's 15th fatal crash of 2020, resulting in 16 deaths. At this time last year, there were seven traffic fatalities.
