Northwest Austin shooting thought to be a murder/suicide, police say

Police responded to the home on Bluegrass Drive after receiving reports of shots fired.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department responded to a fatal shooting in northwest Austin on June 20, which they now believe to be a murder/suicide.

Police said the incident occurred on the 8700 block of Bluegrass Drive, with officers responding around 12:20 p.m.

Officers arriving on the scene found one person dead in the backyard of a residence and another person dead inside. Both people were in their late 50s to early 60s.

On June 23, police identified the deceased as siblings Ashley Harris and Jacob Barlow. 

After receiving reports from the the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office, police believe Barlow killed himself after shooting Harris.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 34th homicide of 2022.
