Two Byron officers were shot Monday morning while serving a search warrant for drugs in Crawford County.
GBI Special Agent J.T. Ricketson said a multi-jurisdiction drug task force knocked on the door of a home on Highway 42 near Walton Road three times around 2:30 a.m.
When no one answered, they went inside. One person in the home started firing at the officers.
The officers returned fire, shooting the person who shot at them. Fort Valley Police said the alleged shooter was killed. The suspect was in the home with his girlfriend and one-month old baby.
Both officers were taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon where Fort Valley Police say they are listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
One of the officers were in surgery.
Ricketson said the task force was working to collect weapons inside of the home.
