AUSTIN — The Supreme Court of Texas on Monday announced its rejection of a lawsuit against the City of Austin that called for new language on upcoming ballots.

The suit was filed by former Travis County Judge Bill Aleshire, who challenged the ballot language of a proposition up for a local vote in November, according to our news partners at the Austin American-Statesman. The proposition, Proposition K, calls for an outside audit of government efficiency at City Hall.

“With this denial, the Texas Supreme Court has confirmed that our ballot language conforms to the legal requirements and represents the key features of both citizen-initiated petitions,” a spokesperson for the City of Austin said on Monday.

The Statesman reported that at a prior council meeting, some supporters of the proposition complained that the inclusion of a cost estimate for an audit of between $1 million and $5 million would bias voters against the measure because the wording does not mention any possible savings that could result from an audit.
