SMITHVILLE, Texas -- A man has been charged with murder after he allegedly attacked his ex-wife in Smithville April 29.

Police said that at around 5:37 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Ken Blaschke Drive in Smithville for a report that a woman was assaulted by a man. When officers arrived, they found a woman -- identified as Tracie A. Zuniga, 42 -- lying in the street with severe injuries to her neck and throat. Police said she was bleeding severely.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she died at 6:30 p.m.

Shortly before her death, police said a man, 38-year-old Matthew L. Gordin, called the Smithville Police Department and allegedly told them he was the man who attacked the woman. Police officers arrested him at his residence. Police said they were able to find the weapon used during the incident.
