San Marcos street lights replaced with LED lights as part of $700K project

The project will save the City of San Marcos about $37,000 each year in energy costs.

SAN MARCOS, Texas — The streets of San Marcos are now a little brighter -- and more eco-friendly.

The San Marcos Electric Utility has replaced all street light fixtures with LED lights. The project, which the city said cost more than $700,000, will save about $37,000 each year in energy costs.

The new lights should last about 20 years.
