Safety improvements at one of Austin’s most dangerous intersections complete

AUSTIN — Safety improvements at one of Austin's most dangerous intersections are now complete.

At the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Elmont Drive, there are now more sidewalks for pedestrians and bicycles and new turn lanes for drivers. The city said the purpose of the improvements is to "reduce crashes by addressing left-turn conflicts and enhancing pedestrian and bicycle safety."

The work is all part of the 2016 Mobility Bond, which has set aside $15 million to fund projects such as this.

The director of transportation for the city said there are about five more projects that will be sent off for construction bids soon.
