Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot 2017 – Register Now!
Not only are we the largest five mile run in Texas, we also offer a one mile walk and Kids K. We have a course for every member of the family!
Over 850 participants donated or fundraised nearly $22,000 in last year’s Fundraising Challenge! We need your help again this year to build on that success and help us reach our goal of raising $30,000. Your donations and fundraising efforts have a direct impact on our local community.
Register for a run/walk, purchase raffle tickets, or participate in the Fundraising Challenge; no matter what you do, you are helping enable Caritas of Austin to support people on their journey out of crisis toward self-sufficiency through housing, food, education, and employment services.
Last year we were able to present Caritas with a check for $330,000 and have raised over $3.1 million dollars over the last 26 years. Together we can make our 27th year our most successful year yet!
Each year, we rely on the help of more than 650 volunteers to make packet pickup and Thanksgiving Day logistics possible for this event. Volunteer opportunities include packet pickup at First Texas Honda, event day registration at the Long Center, and clean-up after the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot is finished.
This is a great opportunity for both individuals and groups looking to help this holiday season.
Caritas of Austin believes that when every person has a stable place to call home, they can reach their full potential and contribute to our community. We build well being by making sure that people have a safe home, access to healthy groceries, jobs that provide a reliable living wage, and educational opportunities to learn life skills. Our innovative, personalized and proven approach to building well being and ending homelessness creates a more vibrant Austin for everyone.
Caritas’ mission is to prevent and end homelessness for people in Greater Austin.
WHO YOU ARE BENEFITING
Each person Caritas serves shares the devastating experience of homelessness. Some people have lived on the streets of Austin for years, while others are more hidden, living in their car or other temporary shelter. Refugees are internationally homeless – literally running for their lives when they are abruptly forced to flee their home. With everyone, our work begins with homelessness, but we ensure that homelessness does not define people’s futures.
Last year, with community support, Caritas:
- Provided 378 households with housing services
- Resettled 631 refugees from 16 countries
- Placed 626 people in jobs
- Served 78,055 healthy lunches
- Offered life skills classes to 830 people
- Served 101 veteran families
- Provided 33,315 meals from the Caritas Pantry
