PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — Editor's note: The criminal case against the mother charged with injury to a child was dismissed on Jan. 15, 2020, "in the interest of justice" at the request of Travis County prosecutors.

On Oct. 6 Pflugerville police were called to a residence where a 1-month-old infant was dropped on its head and was bleeding from the ear.

When police arrived on the scene they met with the grandparents of the injured infant.

The grandparents of the infant stated they were upstairs asleep when they heard a loud thump that had woken them up.

After further investigating, the grandparents told police the mother of the infant, appeared to have a lack of emotion with what had happened to her child.

According to the arrest affidavit, she said she had the child on her left arm and the child made a stretching motion, pushed backward and fell off her arm and onto the floor. She later told officers that the child actually pushed off with its feet.

The infant was rushed to Dell Children’s Medical Center where it was discovered the infant sustained injuries including five skull fractures and internal cerebral hemorrhages, as well as a small scratch on the upper left leg, which medical staff stated were not consistent with the details provided by the mother.

Police contacted the injured infant’s father, who said he was speaking with the infant's mother on Facetime at the time of the injury. The infant’s father stated the two had been in an argument about their relationship at the time of the incident, and he witnessed her throw the infant down with force.

The mother was taken to the Pflugerville Justice Court and has been charged with intentionally or knowingly causing serious bodily injury to a child 14 years of age or younger.

Court records show the case against the mother was dismissed "in the interest of justice" on Jan. 15, 2020, at the request of Travis County prosecutors.
