Pedestrian dies after several cars hit him on MoPac Expressway in Austin

A 27-year-old man died after police said several cars hit him on MoPac.

AUSTIN — Austin Police said a 27-year-old man is dead after trying to cross a major Austin highway.

Aaron Ross Weir was standing in the roadway in the 11300 block of N. MoPac when a silver 2014 Nissan, traveling southbound, struck him at 12:33 a.m. on Nov. 3.

Weir was transported to the Dell Seton Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries at 3:35 a.m.

Austin Police said several drivers hit Weir. The driver of the Nissan stayed at the scene and cooperated, though another driver -- who hit a different vehicle involved in the crash -- fled the scene.

Neither intoxication nor impairment are suspected as factors in this crash, and no charges are expected to be filed at this time. This is Austin’s sixty-fourth fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 65 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were 56 fatal traffic crashes and 58 traffic fatalities.
