AUSTIN — Therapy dogs from Divine Canines, decked out in festive gear, walked the halls at St. David's Rehabilitation Hospital on Friday.
“The Christmas decorations and the antlers and the hats and everything, that’s just a great thing for the holiday," one patient, Alexandra Wetterman, said. "So, really enjoying it."
Lisa Hyde, the therapy supervisor, said it helps spread some holiday cheer in the hospital.
“Motivation is huge for our patient’s recovery, so the more we can improve their spirit and morale, I think the better outcomes we’ll have with their mobility," Hyde said.
“It really does [help]," Wetterman said. "It’s [a] real morale booster. I mean, who doesn’t like dogs?"
The dogs also visit patients throughout the year.
